The construction and built environment sector is under real pressure to cut carbon. The UK has a legally binding net zero target for 2050 and an interim target to reduce emissions by 68 percent by 2030. At the same time, the built environment is responsible for around 25 percent of total UK greenhouse gas emissions, and embodied carbon from construction and refurbishment makes up a material share of built environment emissions.
That matters because carbon its is showing up in tender requirements and client expectations. Welfare is one of those decisions, and it is often overlooked, even though a cabin can sit running for months at a time.
“Better welfare should not come with a bigger carbon footprint. It should do both.”
Deep Green Ultra is a premium welfare cabin built to cut emissions, cut fuel use, and reduce the number of service visits a unit needs across a project. Boss Cabins describe the Deep Green range as a truly solar powered alternative to traditional diesel run welfare, with carbon saving data verified by Carbon Footprint Ltd.

For a 24ft Deep Green canteen office, independently verified data shows a saving of around 3,260 litres of fuel per year and a reduction of over 8.4 tonnes of CO2 per year compared with a standard unit. The cabins are designed to be virtually solar powered for the majority of their energy needs, supported by an emergency generator when required.
The range incorporates rain harvesting and grey water recycling so water can be reused for toilet flushing, cutting the need for tanker visits and reducing disruption on live sites. It also uses remote monitoring, with Boss Cabins highlighting 24/7 oversight of energy production and usage, helping teams stay ahead of faults, refills, and servicing.

We have been out in Stroud this week visiting MD Group on a domestic refurbishment project.
On this scheme the team are delivering cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, replacement windows, external works, flat roof replacement and internal refurbishment. All focused on improving comfort for residents and cutting the carbon running cost of the homes for the long term.
To support that push on energy performance, MD Group have taken delivery of our first Deep Green Ultra towable welfare cabin from Boss Cabins. It is a twenty four foot unit that:
For tenants that means warmer, more efficient homes. For the contractor, it means a lower carbon site and quieter, cleaner welfare that matches the ambition of the works on the building.
Big thanks to MD Group for choosing Scott’s to support the project, and to Boss Cabins for the innovation behind the Deep Green Ultra range.
